I was doing my show last night and sort of made an opinion abo
ut the status of Ike Taylor.
It’s at this time of the year when Tom Shaw begins to get touted by those who follow the NFL. NFL players such as Jim Farrior, Ray Lewis and Ike Taylor routinely head south for his Shaw’s camp.
Well, the discussion on my show was about Taylor and if the Steelers should pay the man despite his age. I made the opinion that the Steelers should base much of their decision on a study that should be done on players that have been trained by Shaw and have it compared to players that haven't taken the time to visit his camp or a camp of this kind on a yearly basis.
Have their
careers been extended because they had such high level fitness due to training with the Guru over a period of years? Did they maintain their efficiency longer than other players?
In other words, Does Ike Taylor have 3 more years left in him at playing at a high level because he trained with that fitness guru?
Well, Lewis and Farrior certainly are two well known clients of his and their level of play at their age speaks for itself.
Their should be research done to see if NFL players have lasted longer and maintained their level of efficiency longer than those that didn't train with Shaw. Just look at Polamalu breaking down. Maybe this wouldn't happen had he been spending summers down in Florida?
The answer to signing Ike Taylor is in the result of that quick study that should be done.
That is, if a study hasn't already been done by someone.

Interesting Dutch! I never heard of Shaw. I'll have to do some reading on this guy, & the players he trains.
You should get raided by the grammar police. Seriously. How long have you been writing? I see more eloquence on Bleacher Report. You don't tell me anything about this camp, the guy who runs it or really even elucidate on this "study" that should be done. It's like a bunch of half-thoughts peppered with incorrect grammar and poor style. Stick to the radio my friend.
After watching Ike Taylor for the last two days at the ESPN camp with Shaw, I say we try to resign him if only the poor man could get in shape if there is a season…..sic. It's my understanding that Troy Polamalu is considering the Fla. camp as well. His Calif. training does not seem to be holding up these last few years. And as with any sport if something is not working, it does little good to continue doing it that way hoping for different results.
TShell, Dutch puts out very good articles in the regular season. I recommend going back and reading them. So good that some writers have gone to plagiarize him. I suggest going back and reading them.
That being said this article is not typical Dutch. It was pretty much a waste of time reading this. You could have listed guys who have trained with Shaw that have exceeded their football shelf life.
And I said the same thing twice in one paragraph. Sorry I just watched Black Swan and my brain is fried.
Correlation and causation? It might be a moot point, but perhaps there is another reason for success than the camp? Perhaps players who go to the camp have a higher dedication level. It is that dedication level that allows them to succeeded? Not really important to the Ike free agency question, more just an interesting general question.
Taylor is a must sign. Would be a big disappointment if he isn't brought back.
The way Steelers have been in such a win now mode and resigning players it would be strange if they did not resign Taylor. They resigned Farrior, Ward, Harrison, Keisel and Hampton who were all as old or older than Taylor.
Taylor had his best season thus far last year and has NEVER missed a game due to injury. If there is a veteran you want to resign it is Taylor.
If he demands the maximum money he can get then I could see the Steelers letting him go but if he even accepts SLIGHTLY LESS than what he could get elsewhere they should resign him. We can be a good team without him but if we want to really try for a SB this year we need him.
