Blogger Deathsport: NFL Pick’em Week 4
By Dagger | September 28, 2007

PGH brings a posse this time around….that’s how we roll
No funny jokes, no references, no braggadocio. Post Game Heroes is in a tie for first place after three weeks, and we have been slipping over the course of the past two weeks. Enough is enough. We’re going MAN ON FIRE on the field this week. Zoltar (from Big), Good Luck Bear, Magic Carpet Swami Guy, Horseshoe….gather around fellas and let’s DO THIS.
Baltimore at Cleveland (+4) ![]()
Thoughts: Baltimore has really surprised me with how bad they have looked and could easily be 1-2 or 0-3 right now. Cleveland has put up some big offensive numbers recently but they’re not a good team. I think the Ravens are an average team playing below average. The Browns are a below average team playing average. Jamal Lewis is held to about 40 yards rushing and the Ravens defense dominates this game. Baltimore wins every game in the last 5 seconds but this week they change that…Easy pick here.
Our Pick: Baltimore
Tampa Bay at Carolina (-3) ![]()
Thoughts: I’ve heard people go as far as to say that Tampa Bay is going to contend for a playoff spot in the NFC, but I’m not buying that. I think Carolina’s run game will control the game and get the W. I really like Jeff Garcia and don’t understand why he is such a journeyman, but he won’t be good enough this weekend to beat the Panthers on the road.
Our Pick: Carolina
Chicago at Detroit (+3) ![]()
Thoughts: Man, if Detroit had any defense at all, I would really give them a chance in the NFC. I think they will hang around the .500 mark for a while but after last week vs the Eagles, I don’t know about them anymore. Their offense is awesome and extremely fun to watch, but their defense kills them time and time again. Rex Grossman takes a seat on the bench this week for the Bears, is that enough to spark SOME sort of offense in Chicago? I’m willing to bet YES, but not enough to make Bears fans happy. I think some of my PGH colleagues are going to disagree, but I’m going Detroit here. Chicago’s defense is not impressing me right now and their offense is a huge question mark. This week, Detroit puts up big numbers and Chicago can’t do enough on offense to keep close in the dome.
Our Pick: Detroit
St. Louis at Dallas (-13) ![]()
Thoughts: Wow, huge spread. I hate this. Dallas is 13 points better than St.Louis (especially without SJax), but in the NFL, most games are decided by only a few points. We like Romo and the Cowboy offense to put up a lot of scores, so we’ll go Dallas here. St. Louis, what is your major malfunction? I really want to hop aboard the bandwagon but you just don’t do enough to give me that final nudge in your direction. I like your RB, your QB, your WRs, your backup RB, some of your defense, but you just can’t put it all together.
Our Pick: Dallas
Green Bay at Minnesota (+1.5) ![]()
Thoughts: The odds makers know something I don’t know about this game. I see blow-out. Yes Minnesota is good on defense but Green Bay and Favre are clicking right now. Go Pack, Go.
Our Pick: Green Bay
Houston at Atlanta (+3) ![]()
Thoughts: Houston is an up and coming team as we all know. They looked good last week against the Colts and we think Shaub is the QB that they have been looking for. Houston goes into the ATL down two of their top 3 WRs and still pulls off the win. Harrington and the ATL running game have looked good here and there, but still, we like Houston.
Our Pick: Houston
Denver at Indianapolis (-9.5) ![]()
Thoughts: I’m not sold on Denver at all. I think they get a free pass pretty frequently and are just plugged into the “top teams in the AFC” conversation by default whether they deserve it or not. The Colts haven’t been beating teams by many points this year, so this is a tough call. Here’s to hoping that the Colts put up huge offensive numbers at home. Denver has a nice pass D though, so this won’t be easy, and I’m not all that confident in this, but I have a gut feeling and ZOLTAR told me to take Indy.
Our Pick: Indianapolis
Oakland at Miami (-4) ![]()
Thoughts: Well, Ronnie Brown decided to show up for Miami. Daunte Culpepper is getting the start for Oakland IN Miami. Verrrryyyy interesting. We’ll say Dante and LaMont put this team on their shoulders and grab the win.
Our Pick: Oakland
New York Jets at Buffalo (+3.5) ![]()
Thoughts: Buffalo is down a Losman. Jets running game lights up the Buffalo defense and they win by 10pts. P.S. are the Jets the most boring team in the league?
Our Pick: New York Jets
Philadelphia at New York Giants (+3)
Thoughts: Philadelphia is coming off a huge week and the Giants are coming off a last second, come from behind win vs the Skins. New York didn’t really impress last week and Philly did. I’m going Eagles here in my LOCK OF THE WEEK (according to Good Luck Bear of Care Bears fame).
Our Pick: Philadelphia
Pittsburgh at Arizona (+6) ![]()
Thoughts: Arizona’s coaches and players know all about the Steelers, but guess what? The Steelers players know all about the Cardinals coaches and some of their players as well. It goes both ways, people. Edge will find running the ball against the Steelers extremely difficult and the Cardinals will be forced to throw the ball a ton. This actually works to their advantage, but not enough to beat a very good Steeler squad. Steelers win by 14 and Kurt Warner gets more playing time than Leinart.
Our Pick: Pittsburgh
Kansas City at San Diego (-11.5) ![]()
Thoughts: Another huge spread. San Diego has not impressed anyone this season, so the 11.5 scares us away from taking them. Yes, they’re at home and KC is deplorable, but we’ll go out on a limb and say the Chiefs find some way to stay within 11.5 points. This could easily be the week the Chargers snap out of their funk with Rivers throwing for 300 yards and LT putting up 50 fantasy points.
Our Pick: Kansas City
Seattle at San Francisco (+2) ![]()
Thoughts: The 49ers really impressed me last week on the defensive side of the football. Offensively, they had a few nice drives but I don’t think they can throw the ball well enough on Seattle to win. Yes, Seattle has one of the worse pass defenses in the league, but Alex Smith won’t be able to take advantage.
Our Pick: Seattle
New England at Cincinnati (+7) ![]()
Thoughts: We’re really looking forward to watching this game. I think Cincinnati is better than they have looked over the last two weeks. Their defense is bad but their offense is SO good that they can hang in any game with any opponent. Except for New England. The Patriots’ biggest weakness is their secondary, so we look forward to Carson Palmer and company beating them deep in the passing game, but New England’s offense is too good, and their defense is good enough to keep the Rudi Johnson-less Bengals in check. They beat the Bengals this week by more than 7 points.
Our Pick: New England
All right PGH, lets clap it up! This is OUR HOUSE! Who Ride!? Who Ride!? Lets storm that field and show Common Prejudice, The Curly R, and Hogs Haven who their daddies are. LET’S GO!

Bill Simmons speculated that Miami might wear home whites, which would mean Oakland would wear all black in 90+ Miami heat.
