Penguins 2 vs Capitals 1

By Dagger | October 21, 2007

The Pittsburgh Penguins have beat the Capitals once again. Sidney Crosby registered an assist on the game-winning goal and Ovechkin was held without a point.

For their careers:

Since Ovechkin/Crosby came into the NHL the Penguins are 8-1 vs the Capitals. Crosby has 15 points….Ovechkin has 9.

Heavyweights: Laraque vs Brashear

Laraque wins the fight hands down but ends up on the “bottom of the pile” after Brashear lands a nice punch ( i guess ) to his helmet. It was funny to watch Laraque absolutely pummel Brashear for 60 seconds….then Brashear hits him in the helmet, lands on him, and the Verizon Center erupts with joy as if the previous 59 seconds never happened.

The Crowd

Speaking of the Verizon Center…check out the crowd in DC. Believe it or not…this was actually an AWAY GAME for the Penguins. You wouldn’t have known that by listening to the crowd or watching the game on TV. Nothing surprising here…I can post similar pictures from Steelers vs Skins and Steelers vs Ravens games.

Great to see those two go at it.

One minor quibble–you write, “the Verizon Center erupts with joy as if the previous 59 seconds never happened,” and then in the next paragraph brag, “Believe it or not…this was actually an AWAY GAME for the Penguins,” speaking obviously how the Caps have a overpowering-visiting fans issue.

Something doesn’t jive. Perhaps people were simply cheering because a fight happened?

Also, I wouldn’t compare Verizon center home crowds to FedEx home crowds. The two fan bases aren’t in the same category.

I give a shit about hockey. I am just glad I was at Maryland’s homecoming and didn’t have to watch my beloved Caps choke once again.

Did you watch the same fight I did? Brashear landed the only actual punch in the fight. Laraque “pummeled’ Brashear’s upper back. Maybe one to the back of the head. Big Whoop. Brash was off balance dodging and biding his time and then easily landed the most significant punch in the fight, and Laraque went down like a thai hooker.

Check out the link. According to the HOCKEY WORLD and the people voting at HockeyFights.com…..most people think Laraque won the fight. “whomever lands on top” doesnt get the Win.

    That fight was all Laraque.

No Laraque won. I’m not disputing that. Laraque was in control the majority of the fight, but never appeared to land any significant shots on Brashear. But while Brashear was off balance early on, he did recover and land what appeared to be the most significant punch right before Laraque crumpled.

OK laraque did land a couple more punches than I originally thought to the back of Brashear’s head. Laraque definitely won, but I still contend that Brashear landed the only significant punch.

I’m not sure I’m following this entire conversation back and forth, but what’s the big deal with punching someone in the helmet? Same thing goes in football. You just wind up looking stupid.
