Blogger Deathsport: NFL Pick’em Week 8

By Dagger | October 26, 2007

Alrighty, PostGameHeroes finished in 2nd place last week so we are looking to rebound off that lackluster effort. Not too many “difficult” spreads this week beyond the New England vs Washington game and a big Giants vs Miami spread. Lets hope we pull out a win this week and we get to put up a BRAG POST on the other blogs’ websites. That is so satisfying I can’t begin to tell you. To hijack their space, their homepage, their baby; just a great feeling. OK, lets not put the cart before the horse….. here are the picks:

Detroit at Chicago (-5) CORRECT!

We like Kitna getting back on track and the Lions continuing their surprising season.

Our Pick: Detroit

Cleveland at St. Louis (+3) INCORRECT!

Ask me who wins this game two years ago and I laugh in your face. This Sunday, it’s a close matchup. Steven Jackson returns to my fantasy football team as well as the turf in St. Louis. Will he be enough to get the Rams a win? Yes. Our only concern is that groin injuries can be season-lingering and he may reinjure himself. Somebody tell me why he isn’t getting one extra week of rest over the bye?

Our Pick: St. Louis

Indianapolis at Carolina (+6.5) CORRECT!

This line is surprisingly low. The Colts will stomp the Panthers no matter who is at QB.

Our Pick: Indianapolis

Washington at New England (-16.5) CORRECT!

Last week the huge spread scared us away from the Pats. Not this week. The Patriots are the best team in the NFL and I’ll go on record as saying they’re the best team I’ve ever seen and they will finish the season undefeated. Lofty praise, I know. Washington’s defensive secondary may keep this one close and cause us to “miss” on this pick, but no way do the Skins win this game.

Our Pick: New England

New Orleans at San Francisco (+3) CORRECT!

Snoozer. I guess we’ll take New Orleans because we like their talent level at the skill positions. Alex Smith is questionable, Gore is banged up.

Our Pick: New Orleans

Buffalo at Jets (-3) INCORRECT!

Buffalo pulled off a rather shocking upset over the Ravens last week but this week they come back down to earth. I really like Trent Edwards at QB but I have this feeling the Jets pull this one off; even though I think Pennington is a bum.

Our Pick: Jets

Giants at Miami (+9.5) INCORRECT!

Ah yes, a Dolphin home game in London. Giants win this one in convincing fashion.

Our Pick: Giants

Philadelphia at Minnesota (+1) CORRECT!

I still can’t figure this Eagles team out. One week they’re up, the next week they’re down. I’m not a believer in Tavaris Jackson yet so I’m not sold on this Vikings team as a whole. I guess they’re following the “strong defense, good running game” blueprint with a QB that “manages the game”. We’ll take the men in green here. Not sure why, but we’ll say Philly comes out and puts up some big points and the Vikings can’t keep up.

Our Pick: Philadelphia

Pittsburgh at Cincinnati (+3.5) INCORRECT!

The Steelers need this win BADLY. My heart tells me to go with the Steelers but after last week’s struggles in the defensive secondary I’m going to say Cincinnati takes the game. This one will be a high-scoring affair.

Our Pick: Cincinnati

Houston at San Diego (0) CORRECT!

Where is this game going to be played? When is it going to be played? Sunday/Monday? We like San Diego no matter when or where. Shaub may not get the start, Andre Johnson is out again but the Texans defense is good. Still, SD is coming alive and looking strong as of late.

Our Pick: San Diego

Jacksonville at Tampa Bay (-4) INCORRECT

I like the Bucs here. The Jags defense will be under a ton of pressure as the offense looks like it will struggle with Garrard out and Jones-Drew questionable. You won’t see a typical dominating Jags defense because they will be on the field all afternoon because their offense will be run, run, run, punt most of the day.

Our Pick: Tampa Bay

Oakland at Tennessee (-7.5) CORRECT!

This is a big spread for a Titans team. I’m not sold on their offense and outscoring Oakland by 7.5? I don’t see it happening.

Our Pick: Oakland

Green Bay at Denver (-3)     CORRECT!

Now that I officially hate Denver I want them to lose. I’m thinking the Packers defense won’t play like swiss cheese like Pittsburgh did last weekend and I think Green Bay can get some things done in the passing game (even though Denver has a great pass D).

Our Pick: Green Bay

Ballhype: hype it up!
