Redskins attempt to acquire Chad Johnson is shot down

ESPN is reporting that the Washington Redskins offered the Bengals a 1st Round pick this year and a 3rd round pick next year (this pick will turn into a 1st Round pick next year if Chad reaches certain incentives).  I’m not quite sure why, but Cincinnati rejected the offer.  They could quite possible get 2 first round picks for a player who is a locker room cancer and says he won’t even report to the team this year.  Maybe they’re hoping they can get a bigger return this weekend during the 1st round of the draft?

that is just plain dumb.. the bengals need players NOW, not next year.. and there is no way that they get more for him after the draft than before it..

this is either spite on their part, or belief that CJ will calm down and play. either way, they are setting themselves up for a miserable situation

    Thank You Bengals!!!!!
I mean, I like Chad and would love to have him as a Skin, but potentially 2 1st rounders?
    WTF!!!

Plus, we all know that the Skins (or any team that gets CJ) would have to tear up the old contract and create a new mega-insane deal.

So Thanks Bengals, you just saved the Skins from making a terrible, terrible mistake and we can still go after a guy like Hardy or Nelson or Doucet or Thomas and still have some cap room and all of our 2009 picks intact.

This is why they’re called the Bungles. And it’s pretty clear now that they’re still the same old Bungles.

Walking Deadman, do you really think any one of those guys will produce and draw coverage the way Chad Johnson could? CJ would contribute immediately, and he’s one of the best WRs in the league. Get lucky, and Hardy or Nelson or Doucet is a pro bowl wideout in three to five years (or, draft Thomas, and he’ll be a total bust). I’m not even sure the ‘Skins would have to tear up his contract. Chad’s saying this isn’t even about the contract, it’s about Cinci sucking.

    Jon,
No WR in this class will step up like Johnson would if he came to the Skins in 2008. Even Calvin Johnson (last years annointed super-stud) struggled. As we know, usually it takes 2-3 years for a WR to really be NFL ready.

If the Skins were right there and needed just 1 component (WR) to be the best team in the NFC then I maybe be in agreement that it’d be worth the risk.

But Campbell isn’t there yet. We have serious age/health issues with our O-line. And we have a new HC with a new system being implemented. If we struggle early (which we might since we have our first NFCE games on the road–stupid NFL schedule) Johnson griping about not getting the ball or Campbell missing him won’t help this team.

Plus, it is about money. Johnson said so on an ep. of ESPN’s First Take. “It’s always about money” he said if memory serves and with Rosenhaus as his agent you know Chad will be wantting a new deal.
