New weekly feature boys and girls. It seems as if we’re always feeling the need to put some of Kemo’s biggest hits into our regular frame-by-frame features (even if they don’t really belong). This guy just blows people up in a way that few, if any, NFL linemen do in a regular basis. Keep in mind that while we love the nasty edge Kemo plays with and the fact that he is capable of these bone-crushing hits, he is also a very good Guard in the traditional “grab your man and drive him” sense. We don’t want you thinking that our love for Kemo is based strictly on the types of hits you are about to see below. So, here we go with Kemo’s KOs of the Week.
Watch Kemo from the Left Guard spot get to the middle LB area and get not one, but two big knocks. Nice to see the big guy play to the whistle.
Kemo pulls here from Left Guard towards the bottom of your screen. Listen to the sideline scream as he squashes a Texan.

… and goodbye Faneca….
What was that corner thinking?!?!?
whatever he was thinking, he forgot it the second Kemoeatu jacked him up. LOL
Now that’s some good stuff, Dagger. Nothing like a vid or two to convey some impact.
If Kemo limits assignment-based mistakes, the sky’s the limit. What a mean streak.
Kemo’s agent is stupid if he doesn’t realize that the last thing his client needs is a change of scenery. He’s a must-sign after the season.
Man, that last block by Kemo was classic Steelers smash mouth football. Left Guard pulls. Clears out one LB, full back is right behind, blows up another LB and the RB gets 4 yards. Give me that play ALL DAY!!! Rather see that then a BB bomb to Tone any time :)
YES Kemo…the Rooneys need to change their policy and give this man a contract before he prices himself out of the burgh!!!
That’s exactly what he’s doing. By the end of the season the rest of the NFL will see what he is doing on a week to week basis and Pittsburgh won’t be able to afford him anymore.
The Steelers can afford Kemo. The question will be whether any guard is worth $7 or $8 million. Just because other teams will pay that doesn’t make it the case.
I get you like this guy, but those videos aren’t great evidence. I mean, the first one…as a 340 pound guard in the NFL you should be able to push a 240 LB, and certainly should be able to push that LB down when their back is to you.
In the second video, he creams a CB. Great. Shouldn’t a 340 pound guard cream a CB who comes up in run support every time?
Dave-
I could put up a video of him pushing a 275lb DL out of the way to create running room for a 9 yard Parker gain, but that wouldn’t be as exciting and it wouldn’t be a Kemo KO. Watch the Texans OL, watch the rest of the Steelers OL, and watch some other OLinemen this weekend and tell me if you see other guys doing what Kemo is doing. Not as easy as you make it sound. A lot of guys can pull and push a DB or LB out of the way for a second. What he does on a routine basis is crazy.
A lot of guards don’t have the footwork, power, or balance to deliver the type of blows he’s delivering. I was watching Sportsbeat the other day and Tunch Ilkin said that off the top of his head, the only guy in the NFL who blocks like that is/was Larry Allen of the Cowboys. He went into detail about how it’s very unusual to see a Guard explode into people and PUNISH people the way Kemo does game in and game out.
Dagger,
What my point is, is that you make it sound like these are “knockouts.” They are both decent blocks, but a good guard should be able to block a LB in straight-ahead man blocking, and a corner coming up in run support, correct?
For what it’s worth, I’ve watched more football than is probably healthy for me, some good, some bad (a 27 year history as a Redskins fan will do that for you). As a Skins fan, I grew up watching good line play, and appreciating it for what it’s worth. Just when I see a post on your site called “Kemo’s Knockouts” I expect more than a block on a LB in the back, and a pulling guard destroying a….CB.
Great site, by the way, and I’m not trying to be a pain.
HaHa. I get what you’re saying. Kemo has had some other hits, perhaps I’ll win you over through the course of the season! :)
Not a pain at all, we encourage comments and discussion. Without people here to give us feedback and to disagree with us on occasion, we’d feel like we were blogging into thin air, with no response. These aren’t sermons, they’re just things that we find interesting from each game that we wanted to pass along in an entertaining/thoughtful manner.
If Dillweed posts a fantastic Giants vs Skins Breakdown and nobody responds….it’s kinda like the old “if a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to hear it, does it make a noise…”
I’d like to see 50 comments under each blog entry and get some real talk going, but alas, this isn’t a messageboard. I visit blogs throughout the day and I post comments once in a blue moon…so I understand. It kinda seems like a hassle to enter your name/comment/email. It’s easier to lurk.
So anyways, I’ll win you over. You’ll be wearing a Kemoeatu jersey by December. I’ll hand it to you at the Skins Steelers game. ha.
Oh, I’m sure I’ll “enjoy” watching him plow over the Redskins in December as the Redskins lose on their way to another highly successful 5-11 season.
;)
