Dagger interviews Dillweed…..
By Dagger | October 29, 2008

I convinced Dillweed to take a step back from the breakdowns and analysis for a minute to join me in a brief off-the-cuff Q and A session. No research, no stats, no gameplanning, just pure biased opinion. I had to know…what does this diehard University of Michigan and Washington Redskin fan think of my Steelers? He lives in the D.C. area and only hears about us on the NFL Network, ESPN, online, radio, etc….basically he is going to give us an outsiders point of view of our team. Should be eye opening. (FYI…Dillweed will be returning the favor and will be asking me questions tomorrow)
Dagger: Are you better or worse than your 6-2 record indicates?
Dillweed: That’s a tough question to answer given the way the NFL is right now. Based on 6-2 teams from the past? Probably worse. But for this year…I can’t think of too many teams with a winning record that are better than us. Our D-line has issues but the LBs are very good and the secondary, with the way Rogers is playing, might be the best in the NFL.. On offense, I think our passing game looks like that of a 4-4 team, but we got one of the top 3 rushing attacks in the league (the Titans and Giants are 1 and 2, imo) when our center is on his game. So in short…yeah, we’re as good as our record indicates.
Dagger: What makes you think you can beat the Steelers?
Dillweed: That offense is deplorable. With or without the injuries. I’ve always said to you for the past few years that I think you guys are forcing the issue every time you put 4 WRs on the field. I don’t think the talent is there at WR just yet for you guys to be doing that. Now…I will say this: 1. I haven’t been watching the Steelers that closely this year, so you all may have stopped doing that and 2. That offensive line would make the Colts WRs look bad. Otherwise…the running game has always been good enough and your defensive front 7 scares the crap out of me. I’m just hoping for JC to survive, literally. If he goes down with an injury that would be a pretty big blow to our team, obviously.
Dagger: From an outsider’s point of view, what do you think about the Steelers this season?
Dillweed: Pretty much what I said in my last answer. Poor passing game, amazing front 7 (not so sure about your secondary outside of Polamalu, but with that pass rush, who cares) and good enough of a running game.
Dagger: What scares you the most about this game?
Dillweed: JC getting hurt. That and possibly seeing Stephon Heyer at LT. Both go hand in hand.
Dagger: Take one Steeler on Defense and put him on your team…who is it?
Dillweed: It would have to be from your front 7. My favorite guy by far on your team has always been Casey Hampton. I love 2 gap DT’s and currently we don’t have a great interior D-line aside from Kedric Golston. BUT, you did recently draft a Michigan Man who is a force on the outside and we could use a pass rush as well. It’s a tough call this year, but I’ll stick with Hampton. Him and Golston would eat up blockers in the middle, collapse pockets, stuff the run, and free up JT and Carter on the outside. Plus our blitzes would actually work.
Dagger: Take one Steeler on Offense and put him on your team…who is it?
Dillweed: Um…well…now this is a tough one. I’d take whichever offensive lineman you have graded out as the best one I guess. And then I’d trade him for Casey Hampton.

Dillweed is aptly named. I wouldn’t trade Big Ben for JC straight up with picks thrown in.

ZING!
Actually I think Big Ben was a top 3 QB last year. Especially when you figure in the 47 sacks and WR corps he had to work with. And this year he’s not the 1st, 2nd or 3rd person I’d blame for the passing game’s woes.

LOL
the 2 fan bases have been living side-by-side on our site for 2 years. This week blood will be shed on this site.

I’d be nervous about this game if I were a Redskins fan. The teams that have shut down the Steelers offense (and thus beat them) have gotten to the QB. That isn’t exactly the Redskins’ forte. If the Steelers get ahead, it could be trouble. That’s my biased opinion :)

Our “poor” passing game is going to light up the nights sky in D.C. I have never been afraid of the Skins…they can’t bring the defensive attack that the Giants and Eagles did against us. Look for Ben to have enough time to pick apart this D.
And we don’t even need to talk about their Offense. Jason Campbell vs. Dick LeBeau….game over.

Look for Carlos Rogers to put it all together and get at least two picks come Monday night.

Question for Dill:
We (the Skins) ran the ball effectively against a very good run defense (the Eagles). The Steelers are just as good if not better against the run. What did we do right against the Eagles and will it translate to Monday Night’s game.

comes down to the trenches, which team controls the LOS. If the ‘Skins manage to keep Campbell upright and have Portis be modestly effective, they win, If the Steelers have Parker back and he can add the element of balance to the Steeler O, they win. If for some reason it comes down to Special Teams, then it’s gonna be up to the zebras and many Redskin faithful are fully aware of the yellow facemask rule and our chances there.

Despite what delusional Steeler fans think, this game will be a tight one. I’m hoping the Skins can get a coverage sack (or two) on Big Ben, and pressure him into throwing a pick (or two). I also hope Campbell will hold onto the ball b/c he’s going to get hit often. Look for Randle-El to pull off some trickeration (Wildcat formation, perhaps?).

Nice interview – I know there is a PGH connection with this particular game but perhaps something like this could develop into a weekly feature?
