Terps Do It Again

By Namaste | February 21, 2009

Maryland 88 – #3 UNC 85 (OT)

Greivis Vasquez’s stat line: 35 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists (first Terp to record a triple-double in 22 years).

Never doubt Gary Williams again.

Ballhype: hype it up!

Gary seems to own Roy in the battle of the Williams. Not only did the Terps beat Kansas in the NCAA tournament in 2002, but the Terps are 3-1 against UNC in the past 3 years (with that lone loss coming earlier this year). Remember, the Terps also beat UNC last year, when UNC was ranked #1. Which led us straight into the NIT, again.

I’m ecstatic they beat the Tarheels, but even as an alum, I’m not sure how much I’d take from this.

I’d stop questioning Gary if he could actually bring a team to the NCAA tournament. The Washington Post last week provided data showing that Terps have had the least success after winning a National Championship than any other team of the past 18 years.

Yeah, let’s see how we stack up against Duke on Wednesday. Supposing that we win that game, then, let’s see if we make the tournament.

This win is meaningless if we can’t build off of it to make a tournament run.
