Defensive Breakdown: Redskins vs Dolphins
By Dillweed | September 11, 2007
“Why the hell did we sign these receivers..”
Secondary
Man, Smootie got picked on. It may have been that he was on Chris Chambers and the Dolphins were going Chambers’ way no matter who was on him (or how many times he dropped the ball). Regardless of his drops, if you can get Chambers on your fantasy team…get him. He was targeted 300 times, which is remarkable when you consider Trent Green threw it 38 times. To Smoot’s credit, he didn’t give up a single throw over 14 yards and had 8 drops…er…incompletions thrown his way. Plus, Smoot almost single handedly won the game for us. All in all, not a bad day.
Pass Interference Calls: Smoot: 1 for 5 yards, Rogers: 1 for 20 yards.
Plays over 20 yards: Taylor: 1 for 23 yards (had zone coverage with Rocky and Fletch.) Rogers: 1 for 28 yards and 1 PI for 20 yards.
Front 7 (or 8)
Pass Defense
Blitzes
| Down | Player | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 1st and 10 | Landry | No pressure/sack |
| 1st and 10 | Landry and Rocky | Pressure (Rocky) |
| 2nd and 7 | Landry | No pressure/sack |
| 3rd and 3 | Rocky | Sack (Rocky) |
| 3rd and 6 | Rocky | No pressure/sack |
| 3rd and 7 | Rocky | No pressure/sack |
Not exactly Buddy Ryan with the amount of blitzes, but a 33% success rate (success defined by applying pressure or getting a sack) is a start. Interesting that only Rocky and Landry have been called upon to blitz. Part of that is Taylor is needed at center field, Marcus is already playing DE on some of these 3rd downs, and I guess Fletch doesn’t have the same upfield speed as Rocky, although I thought he did.
Landry in the Box: 12 times.
Stunts: 4 total (2 inside stunts by Carter and 2 inside stunts by Marcus) with none resulting in pressures or sacks.
Deflections: P. Daniels with 2. I guess not running any stunts helps him gain better position to put his hands up.
Pressures: Carter: 2 (wow), Rocky: 1, Montgomery: 1, Griffin: 1.
Sacks: Carter: 1, Rocky: 1.
Andre Carter performing as a legitimate pass rushing DE either says a lot about his improvement or a lot about LT Vernon Carey. Either way, congratulations to Carter…now do it again and stop losing contain on reverses (more on that Wednesday). Rocky’s pressure and sack came off of the blitz, so it’s safe to say he’ll be doing plenty more of those.
Run Defense
| Runs Left | Runs Middle | Runs Right |
|---|---|---|
| 6 carries for 24 yards (4.0 ypc) | 11 carries for 33 yards (3.0 ypc) | 1 carry for 3 yards (what the...) |
1 carry to the right? If (Killa) Cam was struggling to find room to run, then you would think that he’d at least take a couple more shots to the right. Our ypc on the left was hurt by a 7 yard reverse and 12 yard reverse. Both times, if Carter had maintained contain, we probably have under a 2.0 ypc. Not to mention the second reverse (the 12 yarder) was an instrumental part in Miami’s TD drive…but like I said, more on that Wednesday.
Drive I
| Yard Line | Down | Formation | Play Call | Coverage | Yards | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 17 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Under) | Pass | Deflection | 0 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Landry in the box. Daniels puts his hands up for the deflection (Deflection – Daniels) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 17 | 2nd and 10 | 4-3 (Under) | Pass | McIntosh | 0 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Green has happy feet. Fletch and Rocky close in on the ball quickly. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 17 | 3rd and 10 | 4-2-5 Nickel | Pass | Marcus | 1 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Marcus and Taylor at the line. Geez… 7 guys at the line. Carter runs a stunt inside, Green tries to do a screen, but Marcus stays at home. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Drive: 3 plays for 1 yard. 3 passes and 0 runs. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Drive II
| Yard Line | Down | Formation | Play Call | Coverage | Yards | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 39 | 1st and 10 | — | Penalty | — | -5 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Illegal Formation. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 44 | 1st and 15 | 4-3 (Under) | Run Middle | — | 0 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Landry in the box. Fletch clogs his gap and makes the tackle. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 44 | 2nd and 15 | 4-3 (Stack) | Pass | Sack | -6 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| What the…Andre Carter just got a sack and his man didn’t fall down or block the wrong guy. Carter actually earned it with his skill. (Sack – Carter.) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 50 yd line | 3rd and 21 | 4-2-5 Nickel | Pass | Smoot | 7 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Springs is in the slot. Marcus runs a stunt inside, Smoot closes in on the WR in a hurry. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Drive: 3 plays for 1 yard and 1 penalty for -5 yards. 1 pass, 1 run (middle) and 1 sack. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Drive III
| Yard Line | Down | Formation | Play Call | Coverage | Yards | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 18 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Under) | Run Middle | — | 3 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Landry in the slot, Springs not in the game. Fletcher clogs his gap yet again for the stop. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 21 | 2nd and 7 | 4-3 (Under) | Pass | Smoot | 13 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Landry in the box. We blitz Landry, Rocky seems out of position on the underneath coverage. Chambers owns Smoot on the hitch route. Smoot is definitely scared of Chambers’ speed. (Blitz – Landry) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 34 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Stack) | Reverse Left | — | 7 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Okay. In this formation, the backside DE is responsible for contain…in this case A. Carter, but Carter bites on the play action to the HB and loses contain on the reverse to Ginn. In Carter’s defense, he may have had the speed to atone for his mistake, but Rogers ran into him. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 41 | 2nd and 3 | 4-3 (Over) | Run Middle | — | 1 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Landry in the box. Miami has 3 guys in the I-Formation…weird. Montgomery is a MAN. He knifes through 2 blockers (albeit by just taking a knee) and stuffs the run. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 42 | 3rd and 2 | — | Penalty | — | -5 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| False Start. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 37 | 3rd and 7 | — | Penalty | — | -5 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| False Start. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 32 | 3rd and 12 | 4-2-5 Nickel | Pass | Springs | 11 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Cornelius gets pressure on Green, Skins converge on the TE before he gets to the first. (Pressure – Griffin) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Drive: 5 plays for 35 yards, 2 penalties for -10 yards. 3 runs (2 middle, 1 left) and 2 passes. Crowd/lack of focus by Miami gets the assist here. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Drive IV
| Yard Line | Down | Formation | Play Call | Coverage | Yards | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 27 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Under) | Run Left | — | 4 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Marcus and McIntosh have switched sides, not sure if that means anything. Montgomery is in. Marcus gets contain to force the play inside, Fletch gets blocked but Rocky cleans up. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 31 | 2nd and 6 | 4-3 (Under) | Pass | Smoot | 8 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Landry in the box. Montgomery is still in. Green goes after Smoot. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 39 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Under) | Pass | Smoot | 8 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Golston checks in. Damn, same exact play…Green must think Smoot sucks. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 47 | 2nd and 2 | 4-3 (Stack) | Run Middle | — | 3 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Montgomery breaks through, but the play is called one gap over from him. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 50 yd line | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Stack) | Pass | Fletch/Marcus/Rocky | 3 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Fumble! Springs dives in and gets the recovery. (Pressure – Carter, Montgomery) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Drive: 5 plays for 26 yards. 2 runs (1 left and 1 middle) for 7 yards and 3 passes for 19 yards. Montgomery played well that series. I should start keeping track of how and when we use him. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Drive V
| Yard Line | Down | Formation | Play Call | Coverage | Yards | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 20 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Over) | Pass | McIntosh | 0 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Pass out in the flat that fell incomplete. But Rocky was all over it regardless. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 20 | 2nd and 10 | 4-2-5 Nickel | Run Middle | — | 3 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| A Nickel against I-Formation? Anyways…Montgomery penetrates yet again, and forces Chatman to cut inside, where Taylor makes the tackle | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 23 | 3rd and 7 | 4-2-5 Nickel | Pass | McIntosh/Taylor | 18 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Marcus plays DE. All LBs and Safeties are at the line. . Marcus and Carter stunt inside. Everyone falls back except Rocky, who looks confused. Green finds a hole behind Rocky and in front of Taylor as Rocky was at the line and hesitated to drop back in coverage. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 45 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Under) | Run Left | — | 1 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Marcus seals contain, Fletch clogs the gap and makes the tackle…just like clockwork. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 46 | 2nd and 9 | 4-2-5 Nickel | Pass | Smoot | 0 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Prioleau is in at Nickel. Green took a shot deep, man Green is going after Smoot today. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 46 | 3rd and 9 | 4-2-5 Nickel | Pass | Landry | 0 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Marcus at DE. Landry makes a great tackle to jar the ball lose. Even though Booker would have dropped it anyway…but still. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Drive: 6 plays for 22 yards. 2 runs (1 middle, 1 left) for 4 yards and 4 passes for 18 yards. Rocky had a momentary lapse and Montgomery seems great so far. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Drive VI
| Yard Line | Down | Formation | Play Call | Coverage | Yards | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 38 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Under) | Pass | Smoot | 0 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Chambers beats Smoot but drops the ball, Smoot celebrates like he just used Jedi mind tricks and caused the incompletion. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 38 | 2nd and 10 | 4-3 (Stack) | Pass | Rocky/Fletch/Taylor | 23 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Same post route, this time it beats the zone. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 39 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Under) | Pass | Smoot | 14 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Haha…dude, Smoot is getting killed today. I don’t think there are many CBs that can handle Chambers though. Keep ya head up Smootie. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 25 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Stack) | Pass | Smoot/Taylor | 0 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Overthrown. Taylor scared Green into throwing it away. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 25 | 2nd and 10 | 4-3 (Stack) | Reverse Left | — | 12 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Springs checks in for Smoot, let’s see if they attack Carlos now…well they ran it his way. Montgomery penetrates again. Oh geez, Carter fails to keep contain AGAIN. They already ran a reverse your way before…wake the hell up. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 13 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Stack) | Run Left | — | 1 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Griffin does it all here, penetrates and makes the tackle. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 12 | 2nd and 9 | 4-3 (Stack) | Run Middle | — | 2 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Evans in at DT. Marcus clogs the gap and makes the tackle. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 10 | 3rd and 7 | 4-2-5 Nickel | Pass | Springs | 8 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Springs has the play covered, but takes a HORRIBLE angle at Chatman and instead of a FG, we get a 1st and goal. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 2 | 1st and Goal | 4-2-5 Nickel | Run Middle | — | 0 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Ha. Haven’t they learned yet…you can’t spread us out at the goal line. I’ll ask again: Is this something all teams do or is there something in the scouting report against the Skins? Prioleau and Fletch make the play. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 2 | 2nd and Goal | 4-3 (Under) | Run Middle | — | 1 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Griffin and Rocky stuff Chatman. Damn we’re good. We don’t even need a goal line defense at the goal line. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 1 | 3rd and Goal | 4-3 (Under) | Pass | Rogers | 1 (TD) | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Landry gets in a 3 pt stance…okay now you’re just showing off. Montgomery gets penetration, man he’s just owning the Dolphins O-line today. I aint even that mad about this TD…it was a great effort at the goal line (plus we win.) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Drive: 11 plays for 62 yards. 5 runs (3 middle, 2 left) for 16 yards, and 6 passes for 46 yards. Montgomery just stole some playing time for the 2nd half. Smoot is getting picked on out there. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
HALFTIME
Drive VII
| Yard Line | Down | Formation | Play Call | Coverage | Yards | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 49 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Under) | Pass | Smoot | 0 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Smoot in the box. No pressure by the front 4. If I’m Smoot, then I give Cam Cameron the finger by now. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 49 | 2nd and 10 | 4-2-5 Nickel | Pass | Prioleau | 7 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Prioleau in as the Nickel corner. Prioleau targeted. Hey, that’s one way to take the pressure off of Smoot. Montgomery got double teamed…my how far he’s come along. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 44 | 3rd and 3 | 4-2-5 Nickel | Pass | Sack | -7 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| McIntosh flushes Green back into the pocket after he rolls out and then takes him down. (Blitz, Sack – McIntosh) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Drive: 3 plays for 0 yards. 2 passes for 7 yards and 1 sack for -7. We ran the Nickel against 4 WR on the 2nd play. That says a lot about our LB coverage/speed. Prioleau seems to be splitting with Rogers at Nickel. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Drive VIII
| Yard Line | Down | Formation | Play Call | Coverage | Yards | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 39 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Stack) | Pass | Smoot | 4 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Quick Screen, Rocky makes the tackle. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 33 | 2nd and 6 | 4-3 (Stack) | Pass | Smoot | 0 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Smoot is irritated now…he was all over that quick screen to Chambers. Doesn’t matter, as Daniels got a hand on the ball (Deflection – Daniels.) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 33 | 3rd and 6 | 4-2-5 Nickel | Pass | Rogers | 7 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Marcus at DE. Redskins blitz McIntosh. Green gives Smoot a break and goes after Carlos. Diedorf notes Rogers patented cushion…careful, that’s under trademark. (Blitz – McIntosh) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 26 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Stack) | Draw Middle | — | 4 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Marcus fails to make the tackle on R. Brown. Griffin makes the tackle, Montgomery falls on the ball carrier. Brown dies. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 22 | 2nd and 6 | 4-3 (Over) | Pass | Marcus | 15 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Landry in the box. Montgomery gets penetration, Green dumps it off to Brown. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 7 | 1st and Goal | 4-3 (Stack) | Run Left | — | -1 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Rogers plays the run nicely from his Corner spot. Carter fights through 2 blockers and forces Brown outside, where Carlos and Fletch clean up. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 8 | 2nd and Goal | 4-3 (Stack) | Draw Middle | — | 3 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Ha. Dolphins tried to run the hurry up on the last play to prevent us from substituting. So, we went with the 4-3 personnel. This time, we had time to substitute and we still kept the same package in there. Versatility bitches. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 5 | 3rd and Goal | 4-2-5 Nickel | Pass | Rogers | 3 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Whoa. Rogers covered 2 people on that play. He had the deep man then switched off to make the tackle on the underneath guy. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Drive: 8 plays for 35 yards. 3 runs (2 middle, 1 left) for 6 yards. 5 passes for 29 yards. It’s interesting to see Cam Cameron try to strategize how to run against us. He thinks draws are the answer…NOPE! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Drive IX
| Yard Line | Down | Formation | Play Call | Coverage | Yards | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 11 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Under) | Run Right | — | 3 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Landry in the box. Montgomery gets double teamed and he takes a knee while knifing through it yet again. Fletch makes the stop. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 14 | 2nd and 7 | 4-3 (Under) | Pass | Smoot | 0 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Landry in the box. Ball overthrown, clearly Smoot’s doing. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 14 | 3rd and 7 | 4-2-5 Nickel | Penalty | Smoot | 5 (PI) | ||||||||||||||||||||
| The ball was badly underthrown. But illegal contact by Smoot gets the Dolphins an automatic first. (Blitz – McIntosh) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 19 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Under) | Pass | Fletch | 10 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Landry in the Box. Just a dump off to Chatman. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 29 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Under) | Run Middle | — | 3 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Landry in the box. Montgomery got double teamed again. Fletch made the tackle | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 32 | 2nd and 7 | 4-2-5 Nickel | Pass | Screen | 0 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Springs came in and destroys the play and injures Chatman for good measure. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 32 | 3rd and 7 | 4-2-5 Nickel | Pass | Smoot/Taylor/Rocky | 0 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Dropped. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Drive: 6 plays for 16 yards and 1 penalty for 5 yards. 2 runds (1 right, 1 middle) for 6 yards. 4 passes for 10 yards. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Drive X
| Yard Line | Down | Formation | Play Call | Coverage | Yards | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 20 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Stack) | Pass | Screen | 4 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Rogers missed the tackle, Rocky cleans up. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 24 | 2nd and 6 | 4-3 (Stack) | Pass | Marcus | 8 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Carter beats his man with a speed rush. Marcus misses the initial tackle, so first down Miami. (Pressure – Carter) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 32 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Under) | Pass | Rogers | 28 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Landry in the box. Rocky in the slot. Rogers gets flat out beat by Chambers. Chambers has been targeted 1000 times today. (Blitz – Landry) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 40 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Stack) | Run Middle | — | 12 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Carter went up-field and Rocky did not stay with his gap. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 28 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Under) | Pass | Rogers | 20 (PI) | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Landry in the Box. We send the house here. PI on Rogers. (Blitz – Landry, Rocky) (Pressure – Rocky) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 8 | 1st and Goal | 4-3 (Stack) | Penalty | — | -10 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Holding. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 18 | 1st and Goal | 4-3 | Penalty | Grounding | -10 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Intentional Grounding on Green. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 28 | 2nd and Goal | 4-3 (Stack) | Pass | Rocky/Fletch | 5 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Dump off to Brown, LBs closed in quickly. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skins 23 | 3rd and Goal | 4-2-5 Nickel | Run Middle | — | 5 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Fletch is playing Safety here. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Drive: 6 plays for 62 yards and 3 penalties for 0 yards. 2 runs (2 middle) for 17 yards and 4 passes for 45 yards. Carlos and Smoot are the only liabilities I see on defense, and even then, they are playing a decent game. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Drive XI
| Yard Line | Down | Formation | Play Call | Coverage | Yards | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 22 | 1st and 10 | 4-3 (Stack) | Pass | McIntosh | 3 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Rocky closes in on the check down to Brown. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 25 | 2nd and 7 | 4-2-5 Nickel | Pass | Springs | 0 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Overthrown. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Miami 25 | 3rd and 7 | 4-2-5 Nickel | Pass | Smoot | 0 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| AAAAAAAHHHH….Smoot almost had his revenge for being Trent Green’s whipping boy for the last 59 minutes. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Drive: 3 plays for 3 yards. Yep, that dropped INT was a tear jerker. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Formations
There was one sequence where the Dolphins went no huddle in the Red Zone to keep us in our base 4-3 front. We stopped them anyways, and before the next play, we had time to substitute but still didn’t…which shows you can’t no huddle us into a bad formation and we can play almost any front at any part of the field with success, we are just that versatile.
The Steelers and Ravens tried to spread us out in the Red Zone in the pre-season and the Dolphins tried it on Sunday. I’m not sure if this is a new trend in the NFL or if the scouting report on us says to do this…but it NEVER WORKS. We are just too fast and have 2 all-purpose Pro-Bowl caliber safeties that can stuff the run and defend the pass/fade route. Not to mention Montgomery and Griffin have been getting good penetration up the middle.
A couple interesting notes: 1. Landry actually got in a 3 pt stance in one goal line formation. 2. We never used the Dime package all game, i.e. we never went with fewer than 2 LBs at any time.

Awesome. I think by seasons end you’ll have a job in the Redskins organization. lol.
September 11th, 2007 at 8:45 am
Perhaps that job will be to change Coach Gibbs diapers and make his evening oatmeal.
September 11th, 2007 at 8:48 am
and buying him Tube Socks….like Mr. Pitt in Seinfeld.
“Our Stock Will Rise HIGH!!”
September 11th, 2007 at 8:56 am
What do you think about the fact that Springs didn’t start? On the junkies this morning, they were saying that they’re probably trying to phase him out over the course of this season so that they can free up some salary space for next year.
September 11th, 2007 at 9:28 am
There’s no way to know why Springs didn’t start, but that’s a fair assessment. GW has been burned by Springs’ injuries one too many times…that combined with cap considerations adds up to Springs possibly being phased out, but it’s way too early too tell.
September 11th, 2007 at 9:31 am
Great breakdown! Do you have any stats about how often the cover 3 was used this game and how effective it was? Seems like the shift to that from Cover 2 has helped this D.
September 11th, 2007 at 9:33 am
About springs, did you see what he said in the WP blog? He’s just playing for the money anyway, and is willing to come out and say it. Williams will bench him just for that.
September 11th, 2007 at 10:16 am
Jon, I didn’t breakdown secondary coverages because there are too many instances where the camera angle doesn’t allow for proper analysis. I wish I could get my hands on some coaches film.
Springs’ statement doesn’t surprise me. He is from Ohio State…where playing for money is a key motivating factor.
September 11th, 2007 at 10:20 am
But c’mon, he’s from Silver Spring! He should love the fact that he’s playing at home.
September 11th, 2007 at 11:30 am
And that way when he gets injured he can be home quickly. I think we need to use him while he’s healthy, but I understand the staff having frustration with him. He may be a “cover corner”, but he’s no leader and has never really seemed to mesh with the team.
September 11th, 2007 at 1:36 pm
So guys from THE Ohio State University play for money…Guys from UM have to play for passion and love because for them the NFL is NOT FOR LONG. Yeah I stole that line from Jerry Glanville…so what.
September 11th, 2007 at 1:41 pm
Playing for THE U is as good as making an NFL squad….dont u know that?
September 11th, 2007 at 5:37 pm
Yeah, I was trying to watch for our coverage schemes but the damn camera angles always cut them off. This is extremely frustrating for someone who previously went to all home games and sat at a wonderful vantage point of the front of the top bowl 40 yard line. I have to say if you get a chance to sit in seats like that in any stadium, go for it. You see the play develop like you never could down low.
Regardless, I’m going to watch the Network’s replay of the game tonight and keep a closer watch on Landry in the box.
Is Reche Caldwell the last of the ex Spurrier Gator WR’s for us to sign? Because I can not take anymore of those guys.
September 11th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
Dillweed, being a Redskins fan, I love you.
Being a Notre Dame and Ohio State fan, I hate you.
Good luck this weekend as Mike “My Guarantees Have Holes” Hart will probably run for 250, but will fail in his prediction again!
No seriously. I love you.
September 11th, 2007 at 8:55 pm
damn ND AND O-state? You’re the devil, lol.
I predict Crable knocks out Clausen and your back up torches us for 300+ yds.
…along with 3 INT’s and we pull out a win.
