Patriots expected to dominate this season? I’m not so sure
By Dutch | July 2, 2009

I’m not saying the Patriots are going to suck. Don’t take this to that extreme please; but everyone is riding the Pats and Brady. Just go to the local magazine rack and see for yourself if you don’t believe. Everyone that I have read so far is saying that with God back under center, the Pats will go back to their record setting offense.
Really? Are we sure about that?
Listed below are the Yards Per Pass Attempt, game by game averages in 2007 for the Almighty God. As you can see, the Patriots took the league by storm early in 2007. God Almighty averaged 9.4 yards per attempt through the first 10 weeks of the season. However, they were served a reality check the last 9 weeks and on into the Superbowl; God only averaged 7.1 Yards Per Attempt, which is his career average. The Pats still won, but they weren’t the same Pats that we saw over the first 10 weeks. Clearly this shows the league began to catch up with them. Brady wasn’t doing any better in 2008 against the Chiefs before his knee injury.

7.1 in their last 9 games including Superbowl & KC game in 2008

Last year Matt Cassel only averaged 7.2 Yards per attempt which was very similar to Brady’s 7.1 over the last 9 games the year before. Nothing wrong with 7.1 but its not the prolific 9.4 that you saw first 10 games of 2007 when they came out like gangbusters, caught everyone off-guard and surprised teams. Let’s also remember that Randy Moss is also 2 years older and his QB is coming off a broken leg and busted knee.
So please tell me where is the overwhelming evidence that we will see a return of the prolific Pats offense from early 2007?
In short, the Patriots won’t be winning any more Superbowls anytime soon; the time to bet on the cheaters is past. They will still be good, don’t get me wrong, but no more Superbowls for Belicheat.

I could see Brady struggling early in the season before making a strong push to get the Pats in the playoffs but no SB for them. He’d most likely have to get by a nasty Steelers or Ravens D, and that ain’t happening.

NFL defenses always adjust, and as stated, they were already adjusting late in that same year. Peyton didn’t follow up his record setting year and niether will Brady. Defenses today are too good. Let’s not forget the pundits spouting this BS in these mags are just armchair QB’s like everyone else.
“Hahahah. We’re only going to score 17 points? Hahaha. Okay. Hahahaha”.

Come on now. No one is saying the Pats will put up 500 points again, but they do have a pretty darn good team. And they never are bad two years in a row in something they struggle with, and last year it was the suspect defense. This year D will be better, there will be more focus on the running game, and you know Moss, Welker etc seemed to do okay with that back up last year. Looking forward to Pitt hosting us in an AFC title game, we know what happens then…
