Another look at perhaps the biggest play of the season

By Dagger | November 26, 2009

Check out how deep Mewelde Moore is when he gets the pitch in his hands. This play goes from being 3rd and 2 to being 3rd and 10 once he has the ball in his hands. By the time Moore is nearing the sideline trying to turn the corner, the only Steeler blocker in the area is Heath Miller and he is trying to ward off 3 KC defenders.

Ballhype: hype it up!

Hampton's reaction is the best part. Just run that part on a loop.

If you are going to run that play, better have #34 do it. He may have been able to get outside on that one. Either way, that is a BAD call. Remember a 3rd down sweep a couple of years ago vs Jacksonville?

Arians won a SB he is amazing and no matter how bad our offense is he is great and he should be our OC forever. Moore should have been faster.

Honestly think Rashard get's to the 2nd level there. At the very least, doesn't lose yardage.

The more I watch it, the more irritated I get. Things that are irritating to me:

    1. Miller should have blocked inside and left Moore iso'ed on the CB. Hard to decide that in the middle of the play tho.
    2. Colon blown off the ball. If he takes his man 1 yd deep, that angle is cut off.
    3. Essex on the ground. The entire right side sucked gas on that play.
    4. Pre-snap it is OBVIOUSLY man coverage with a single safety high. That leaves a LB assigned to Moore, and he makes the play. Someone (AHEM!) should have recognized this and audibled out of a sweep that gives the LB an unblocked inside pursuit angle.

    steelhead,
watch hines ward com in motion at the beginning of the play. he is supposed to seal the end man on the line of scrimmage and willie colon is supposed to pull around that block. ward blocks his man into colon, so willie has no way to get to his assignment. this was not a good call here though.

    Hi Bob,

I saw that. My assumption is that Ward and Colon were to double team that edge to seal it.
