Blogger Deathsport NFL Pick’em: Week 3
By D-Mech | September 21, 2007
Week 3 of our battle with The Curly R, Hogs Haven, and Common Prejudice begins….
After tearing up the blogosphere and our competition by going 10-4 and getting the W, we took a nose dive last week, the likes of which the world hasn’t seen since OJ Simpson. We finished an embarrassing 6-9, and our Two Week Total is 16-13. That is just SO average. We are still first place in our competition, but at PGH we pride ourselves on being ahead of the curve, being unique, a cut above, being different….and here we are with the rest of the pack like some commoners, like amateurs. We’re about to fix that.
This week, we prayed at the altar of Brandon Lang for some much needed help. We even endured a marathon of Matthew McConaughey (all those movies and I still don’t know how to spell it) movies for inspiration. (p.s. does that guy ever wear a shirt?)
(Winner gets to post a full story on the other site’s blog the following week, about whatever they want. The more boring the better!)
Odds based on Yahoo!Sports line as of Wednesday night.
Cardinals at Baltimore Ravens (-8) ![]()
Coming off a big win in Seattle with Edge seemingly re-born, I think that the Cardinals will be able to keep the game close vs the Ravens. I see the Cards losing this game, but I believe the margin of victory will be less than a touchdown. The Cards have far more weapons on offense than the Jets did, which leads me to believe that the Cards will keep this game close. We all know that if the Ravens have a weakness on defense, it’s their pass defense, so maybe Leinart and his WRs can exploit that matchup.
Our Pick: ARIZONA
Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons (+3.5) ![]()
I don’t really see how Atlanta has a chance here. Steve Smith is a machine and Jake Delhomme still hasn’t fallen off the map yet (he usually starts to come undone 1/2 through the season). Atlanta’s scored 10 points in 2 games and I don’t see them adding much to this awful total. Meanwhile, backup QB Byron Leftwich is on the sidelines secretly hoping Harrington sucks. Bastard.
Our Pick: CAROLINA
.
Dallas Cowboys at Chicago Bears (-3) ![]()
I’m looking for the Boys to get exposed for the fraud that they are. Chicago’s defense is just nasty. Look for T.O. to equip himself with his patented alligator arms for this one. The Cowboys’ secondary has been a weakness for a long time, and I think Rex will pick his spots to take advantage. By “pick his spots,” we mean he’ll go 9 for 19 and 150 yards. 0 TDs and 0 INTs. That’s a great day for Rex. Defense takes care of this one.
Our Pick: CHICAGO
Jacksonville Jaguars at Denver Broncos (-3) ![]()
Jacksonville has split games at home against the Titans and the Falcons. Now they travel west to face a Broncos team that has not impressed but still won ugly in overtime last week. Keep note that the Jags have not scored more than 13 points in either game this year. I don’t think this game will be very close. Look for Denver to run away with it.
Our Pick: DENVER
.
Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans (+6)
(PUSH)
No Andre Johnson, no chance! Though Houston is certainly looking better than they ever have, they will not have enough to compete with the King of the Hill. Last week, Houston could not do anything to contain the unstoppable Steve Smith. This week, they have to try and stop two quality receivers. Indy wins big.
Our Pick: INDIANAPOLIS
Minnesota Vikings at Kansas City Chiefs (-3)
(PUSH)
Kansas City has gotten worked twice this season and I do not see that trend ending this week. Minnesota’s D has reminded us of the “Purple People Eaters,” while Kansas City’s offense has looked like a carcass recently thrown up.
Our Pick: MINNESOTA
Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots (-16.5) ![]()
New England destroyed the Chargers. New England will completely violate the Bills. JP Losman’s spot as starting QB begins to look shaky.
Our Pick: NEW ENGLAND
Miami Dolphins at New York Jets (-3)
(PUSH)
There isn’t much to say about the Dolphins, except for “they will remain winless at the end of this game.” The Jets are not very impressive themselves, but you have to appreciate the way they played tough against the Patriots and the Ravens. Remember, the Jets were one dropped pass away from tying the Ravens game in the end of last week’s game. I know Jet QB Chad Pennington is “the guy” in New York, but if I had my way, Kellen Clemens would be my starting QB until further notice. I don’t see how you can have a QB who can’t throw a deep ball in the starting lineup. Isn’t stretching the field an important part of any offensive philosophy?
Our Pick: NEW YORK
Cleveland Browns at Oakland Raiders (-3) ![]()
Browns fans…get real. Cincy’s defense is horrendous; Oakland’s is much better. My man LaMont Jordan has been busy proving people wrong and should have a relatively easy time against an awful Browns defense. I was almost angered that Cincy allowed these perennial losers to look unstoppable on offense. Are you kidding me? Will not happen again, not even close. Not to imply that Oakland is a great team, but they will take this one by more than a field goal, especially at home. LaMont for Heisman, anyone?
Our Pick: OAKLAND
Detroit Lions at Philadelphia Eagles (-6) ![]()
The Eagles will win this game, but not by more than six. The Eagles defense recently allowed twenty points to the Redskins. Imagine the points Detroit will put up with their barrage of weapons. In any other circumstance, I would pick the Lions to win outright, but I cannot see Philly going winless over three games. A side note, if you haven’t been watching any of the Lions games, you need to. They are a lot of fun to watch. The Greatest Show on Turf has moved from St. Louis to Detroit.
Our Pick: DETROIT
San Francisco 49ers at Pittsburgh Steelers (-9) ![]()
Pittsburgh will stop Frank Gore and make Alex Smith throw the ball. The problem is, he can’t really do that very well [insert "small hands" joke here]. This will not be very competitive, unless of course Big Ben decides to throw aimlessly into that strong 49er secondary. If Pittsburgh doesn’t cover the spread, it’ll be because of Big Ben, not San Fran.
Our Pick: PITTSBURGH
San Diego Chargers at Green Bay Packers (+5) ![]()
LT will officially start his season this week in Green Bay. I love Favre, but I don’t see him being able to beat San Diego’s defense. He’s gonna have pressure on top of him all day and will inevitably throw a couple of INTs. This game will not be close either. If you own San Diego as your TEAM D in fantasy football, Congrats. Looking forward to about 6 sacks on Sunday from the Bolts.
Our Pick: SAN DIEGO
Cincinnati Bengals at Seattle Seahawks (-3.5) ![]()
The Bengals have no defense. It simply does not exist. It’s hard enough to beat Seattle in Seattle, but to do it without a defense is simply impossible. This will be a bit of a mini shoot-out and Seattle will take home the W.
Our Pick: SEATTLE
St. Louis Rams at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-3.5) ![]()
I had a tough time with this one. The Bucs performance last week is throwing me off. If they play like that again, then I think they’ll win. But, I’m expecting them to come back down to Earth a little bit. It’s time for Joey Galloway to have his usual three poor games in a row now after one monster receiving day. I also expect the Rams to come around and start producing the way they’re capable of producing.
Our Pick: ST. LOUIS
New York Giants at Washington Redskins (-3.5) ![]()
The Giants are terrible. They’re defense is ugly and their offense has weaknesses. The Redskins are riding high on their 2-0 start, and at home, they will dismantle the Giants. The Skins D looks to be back to its 2005 form.
Our Pick: WASHINGTON (Skins 24 to Giants 13)
Tennessee Titans at New Orleans Saints (-4)
I really like the Titans. If they don’t fall behind early and are able to keep running the ball, then they may have a real chance in this game. Unfortunately for Tennessee though, New Orleans will get their offense together and start moving the ball as they did last year, involving a good mix of the pass and the run.
Our Pick: NEW ORLEANS
We will link our competitors picks once they come in. You all better pray for a PGH victory…otherwise one of those other bloggers is going to take over the blog for a little while and post something incredibly boring on our homepage. We Must Protect This House!

Not so sure about the Bears/Cowboys pick. Lets not forget, the Best offense is sending your defense against Rex Grossman.
